Web Design and SEO Australia

No matter the size or nature of your business, you absolutely must have a website. There are over 20 million Web users in Australia alone, and a recent poll shows a growing number of them say it is essential to their everyday life. More and more, the Web is replacing references such as phonebooks, newspapers, and atlases. If your competition has a website – and you can be certain at least some of them do – and you do not, a significant portion of those 20 million Australian are going to find your competition when they look for a business like yours.

When seeking information on anything – news, a specific topic, products or services, anything – most Web users turn to a search engine. Though Google is by far the most popular, Microsoft recently launched its own search engine, Bing, and entered a partnership with Yahoo to provide search functionality for the portal. There are still more search engines, many of which cover a single subject or field of interest. Few Web users will surf through page after page of results; the highest ranking sites – the first 8-10 listed before the reader has to scroll down – get the most traffic from the search engine for the keywords or phrases entered. CNBC recently reported that Google provides 2 billion searches a day. This is why competition is so fierce.

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the practice by which webmasters try to improve their site’s organic search engine placement. Most search engines offer paid listings, featured at the top of the results, but they are clearly indicated as such; “organic” results – non-paid entries – are known to be more relevant. SEO is a broad field with no hard and fast rules. It is so complex that an entire industry has sprung-up around it, and though it is not cheap, outsourcing your site’s SEO to a trustworthy firm is worth the price.

These days, you simply cannot afford to not have a website. Over 25% of the world’s population is online, and almost half of them say finding information is the best thing about the Internet. Almost all Web users turn to search engines to find that information, and the first few websites on the results page get the most traffic. By optimizing your website for higher search engine placement, you will get more traffic from people searching for the keywords and phrases you target.
